The idea for this site came about when listening to a message by my pastor on Mark 4:1-20, about the parable of the sower and the four types of soil in which he plants. It is a significant passage that relates to how one shares the Word and the results of such sharing.
China is a country that is often referred to, from our Western perspective, as being in the East. We often use the term "the Far East" to describe the location of several Asian countries, all on the other side of the International Date Line. In China, which has one time zone, there is a time difference of 15-16 hours ahead from the West coast of the United States.
One of my hobbies is gardening. Those who know me and have visited my former home in the state of Washington, know that I like to garden. Planting flowers and vegetables, as well as doing yard work has been one of my passions for many years.
Thus given this parable (also told in Matthew 13:1-13 and Luke 8:1-15), this Eastern culture which is vastly different from the West and my interest in gardening, the title, "Sowing Seeds in an Eastern Garden" came about.
Christ was all about relating to people. Read here, as well as throughout the blog, as to my perspectives on and endeavors toward building bridges with the different people I come in contact with.
Just as the culture in the time of Christ was different from our modern times, so is the Chinese culture vastly different from our Western culture. In this section I hope to inform you more of these differences between the East and the West; but also share some of the similarities as well. Such topics will include customs, ideologies, philosophy, manners and etiquette, and a host of other things that make China a curious and unique place.
